When I was in College Tuesday night was pretty much always game night. We would meet at different houses and play whatever board game we all agreed upon. We played games like Scattergories and Balderdash, and on one night decided we would play Catchphrase. Have you ever played this game? It's pretty fun. I think the point of the game is for one person to read a "catchphrase" and for the group to then guess words associated with that particular phrase. If the group gets all the words then the person reading the card does not get a point. If they do not get all the words, then the person holding the card gets a point.
I was feeling pretty good this particular night I had been playing well and getting lots of the right phrases. Then I flushed it all down the toilet! My friend was reading the card and the catchphrase was "The Battle of the Bulge." Knowing all the answers I immediately starting spouting off phrases before anyone else could. Jenny Craig! Weight Watchers! Slim-Fast! Who knew their were so many! I just kept spouting them off while everyone else started laughing at me. "Why are you not saying anything! We're gonna lose! The time is almost out!"
What an idiot! My friends then let me in on a little secret that was glaringly obvious to everyone else! The Battle of the Bulge had more to do with World War II than it did weight loss. Shocking!
Needless to say, I have not played Catchphrase since. However, if you are playing against me in the future, you know what card to pull!
Funny story! I love Catchphrase... I'm not great at it, but it's fun.
